Multi-cultural day at Daycare tomorrow

Why, oh why, did I decide to send Xander to daycare tomorrow of all days?? It's multicultural day, which I think is awesome for the kids to learn about and everything - but we have to send a cultural snack from our heritage and also the kids can dress up (we are not doing this, we have no costumes or the like around here!). SO, I had to figure out what to make (or buy) that would be either French Canadien (Des' family), Canadian (my family) or Norwegian (also my family). I think I have decided to make Norwegian crepes/pancakes - Pannekaken and serve it with real Canadien maple syrup (Des' uncle Lazare makes the sweetest maple syrup you'll ever taste!!). Easy Peasy!! And the daycare shouldn't have any problem reheating them when it's time to serve them.

Well, off to clean my kitchen and become creative!! I'll let ya know how they turned out.

Spring is officially here

Last night was the first night of many like it to follow .... SOCCER!!! Cody had his first official soccer practise last night!! Every Monday and Wednesday are soccer nights, practise Monday - game Wednesday. Of course it had to be Wednesday, that's Jenna's Spark night!! Argh! Not sure how I am supposed to be in two places at once, but guess Des and I will be alternating who goes where. Thankfully, most of the games will be around here, so I can drop JT off and still pick her up, AND catch those games. He's all set, just gotta grab him some soccer socks this week when I run to Lethbridge and hit Wally's.

Probably going Thursday to Lethbridge, gotta do our monthly shopping - Costco, SuperStore and WalMart. I kinda miss having them close-by, but at the same time, I am not running there for every little thing like I used to. I swear, before we moved, I was at Wally's nearly every day, for something.

Got a few more LOs done, with pics from our Easter trip. I'm sad I missed quite a few photo ops due to my batteries dying, but at least I got a few.

On a happy note, Quinny slept through the night last night!!! Whooo Hooooo!! It's been months and months since that's happened. And the night before, he only woke once, to nurse, and let me move him back to his own bed afterwards!!! Man, I forgot what it was like to sleep in a bed alone (Des is working graveyards right now, 6 day weeks!!!). Hoepfully, he keeps this up, man, oh man, we need it! Especially while my ILs come to watch the kids while I go for my surgery.

What surgery you ask? I have a non-cancerous tumour on right half of my thyroid gland, and I need to have it removed as it is crushing my windpipe. Not sure exactly when the surgery will be, we were told to expect a call in early May and we will be getting about a week's notice. I think they may have actually tried calling today, the phone rang, but I was upstairs and Des was in the basement, thought the other had grabbed it. The number came up like the hospital does, so we are hoping I get a call tomorrow. I'll update as I find more.

We made it home

and all in one piece too - AMAZING!!! I proved to myself that I can drive alone long distance with all the kids in the car ... although it I don't have to drive, I won't. heheee Praise to the geeky people who invented the portable DVD systems and PSPs!!! Man, without those, the trip would have seemed endless! lol

Didn't get to visit with everyone that I wanted to, but that's ok. The weather wasn't the greatest while we were there (and of course, everyone said it was beautiful here, isn't that the way it always goes?!). We took the kids to the local amusment park, went on a few rides. Spent lots of time visiting with family. I think the trip went pretty well, even though the two little ones got colds and Quinten and Jenna's allergies kicked in (cat for Quin, strawberries for Jenna - that's a new one!!).

And this weekend is gonna be quiet, Cody is off to Calgary to see his father. Last minute trip, but I know he loves any time he can snag with his dad, and if Ryan asks, it is very rare that I say no, even last minute. But I did tell him he can buy the kid some shorts for soccer, since he starts on Monday!!! Especially since I paid the registration, bought the cleats and shin guards, etc., I think it's only fair.

Well, off to go finish the boatload of laundry we accumulated on the trip and figure out what to make the kiddos for lunch, and then of course, decide what to burn (er, cook) for dinner.

Finally, on a roll

I've finally been getting real creative lately, and even managed to get more than one new LO done and uploaded. Don't really care if people comment on them, they aren't for them, they are for me (thanks for the reminder Kristin!!). I'm just amazed that I am starting to feel good about my own LOs and am not critizing myself too much. If I am doing one for the kids, I ask them if they like them when I am nearly done. If they do, that's good enough for me, since, ultimately, it is all for them in the end.

Been enjoying the weather here, it's perfectly Spring-like. The snow is all melted and the ground isn't all mucky. The kids have all been able to go outside and play!! Well, Quinten's only gone out once, but that's still better than being stuck in this house all day long, every day.

Leave on Thursday for our big trip back home to Kamloops, to see my Mom & stepdad and the ILs. Gotta go get our minivan back. Nothin' fancy, it's 15 years old, but it's still ours. Des is coming back Sunday or Monday, and the kids and I are staying in the 'Loops until Wednesday. Then we head off to the Trail area to visit with my Dad, stepmom, older brother and two younger sisters. My first real road trip solo driving!! ACK!!! Alone with all four kids for 10 hour total car time!!! What the heck was I thinkin'?!?! Hope I survive. Des and I are hoping that we can swing a date night while we are in the 'Loops, since we will more than likely not be able to do anything on our anniversary next month.

That's all for now, the children are fighting (like that's something new in this place) and being mouthy to each other, and it's almost time for Quin to go down for his nap.

Oh, if anyone can help me customize this thing (meaning page) to my likes, I'd appreciate it. I have knowledge in HTML, but CSS and stuff scares me!! If you want to help, email me tuneskids@shaw.ca ... thanks!!!
